Meet the team: Maria

What drives NEW STANDARD.S forward: It’s the people who show up with ideas, values, and curiosity every day. That’s why we’d like to introduce you to the faces and stories behind our studio.

– What is your role at NEW STANDARD.S and what motivated you to start working here?

I work at NEW STANDARD.S as a Creative Concepter & Copywriter, sitting at the intersection of sustainability, circular economy, and storytelling. My background in sustainability management helps me translate complex topics into clear, meaningful narratives that resonate with people. Around the office, I also make sure everyone has full glasses of water, random snacks, and brainstorm personalised birthday gift ideas.

What finally led me to NEW STANDARD.S, in a roundabout way, was probably the book “The Artist’s Way” — and the realisation that I didn’t have to stay in sustainability management to stay true to the topic closest to my heart. NEW STANDARD.S is a place where I experience a lot of fun and integrity every day, where I get to grow constantly, and where new ideas are always met with trust. I love our team lunches where we cook for each other — and of course, our free Wednesdays!

– What do you think urgently needs to change?

What really needs to change, in my view, is how we treat each other as a society. From a young age, we’re trained to compare, compete, and try to be “better” than others. Instead of asking “How can we solve this together?”, it often just becomes about who wins. I wish we could shift our basic understanding of togetherness — away from competition, toward more care, cooperation, and shared responsibility. I think that would benefit not just us as humans, but our whole ecosystem.

– What occupies and inspires you outside of the studio?

I often find inspiration in the most ordinary things — the way light falls through a stairwell, a brief encounter at the checkout, or a conversation between two friends at the bus stop. I’m a very observant person — which is mostly lovely, and sometimes a bit exhausting. A friend recently said to me, “Ah, you’re one of those antenna people” — and I’d definitely say that’s true.

In my free time, I love sitting in cafés in Berlin and elsewhere and watching the world go by, rummaging through public book exchanges for collage material, and communicating through memes whenever possible.
