Meet the team: Svenja

What drives NEW STANDARD.S forward? Its the people who show up with ideas, values, and curiosity every day. That’s why we’d like to introduce you to the faces and stories behind our studio.

What is your role at NEW STANDARD.S and what motivated you to start working here?
When I was looking for an internship in 2022, the listing from NEW STANDARD.S immediately stood out — it was the only design role clearly linked to sustainability. That instantly resonated with me, because even during my studies, I was already exploring how we can use design in meaningful ways. I never aimed to create large commercial campaigns. For me, impact doesn’t mean selling lots of products, but sharing ideas that actually make a difference. As a designer at NEW STANDARD.S, I get to contribute to that — helping important ideas reach people, right where they are.

What do you think urgently needs to change?
Phew, so many things need to change… How we produce products, how we consume, and this belief that more is always better. How we treat the things we already have. How we talk to one another and how we work together. I wish we’d act less out of self-interest or for appearances, and more in the interest of the community — especially its most vulnerable. Even if that means taking risks or doing things differently than they’re ‘usually done.’ And we urgently need more optimism!

What occupies and inspires you outside of the studio?
Since I started growing my own vegetables, cooking, kitchen creativity, and being a host have become really important parts of my life. I love experimenting with what’s possible using only seasonal produce. Creativity in the kitchen works in a totally different way than it does on paper or a laptop. Maybe that’s why it’s such a great counterbalance to my work at the studio. Even better that food plays such a big role at NEW STANDARD.S too. I’m still baking with the sourdough starter from last year’s holiday party — and our team lunches are always the best inspiration.
