BRAND & COMMUNICATION
July 2021 – February 2022
Due to globalization, increasing prosperity, and, above all, cheap, subsidized air travel, many Germans travel to faraway countries. Those who want to travel within Germany are often confronted with a camping vacation. The associations? Outdated bathrooms, poor Internet, little comfort – although from a sustainability perspective, a camping vacation is definitely positive. But only 17% of 14- to 29-year-olds go camping. In our opinion, more attractive campsites are needed to bring the many long-distance travelers back to Germany.
Together with the operators of Ahoi Bullis, a Hamburg-based camping van rental company, and Ann Van Wetteren, we developed a concept – including look and feel expansion measures and branding – that would breathe new life into Camp Fehmarn, an aging campground in northern Germany.
The priority was creating a place where the whole family would be happy, and different interests and needs could be met. The onsite facilities were therefore particularly relevant, and there was room for sport facilities at Camp Fehmarn.
In addition to attractive wash houses with family bathrooms, there is now a cozy café and an indoor playground, if the weather doesn’t cooperate. A sauna with a view of the inland lake ensures an unforgettable camping experience – just like the location in the middle of a nature reserve, which is treated with a great sense of responsibility and respect through various communicative measures onsite. In the coming years, more educational opportunities for children and young people and better-equipped cooking facilities will be added, to increase the camp's sustainability features even further.
After just a few weeks of operation, the new Ahoy Camp Fehmarn is already receiving consistently positive reviews from campers; the modernized wash houses, which are cleaned without chemicals, have been met with great approval. The guests feel comfortable, and the staff is very satisfied. A detailed impact assessment will be made in 2023/2024.
