Worldwide, the demand for copper is rising. However, its extraction and production are usually associated with high emissions and resource consumption. Our client Montanwerke Brixlegg AG has been a pioneer in the industry for decades. Located in a small village in the Austrian Alps, they not only obtain 100% energy from renewables like local hydropower but also only process metal waste and scrap that they turn into upcycled copper. They are a true pioneer in the heavy metal industry. This is also reflected in the emissions they cause as they beat the industry wide emission standard. Obviously, their services are in high demand by all global players that also want to position themselves through their environmental policies. At this point, however, the public, politicians, and potential workers (who are in short supply) do not yet know about the pioneering standing of Montanwerke Brixlegg AG.
Originally requested by the client for a communication campaign, it quickly turned out that we had to start a step earlier: It is time for the first sustainability report of Montanwerke Brixlegg AG, in order to subsequently build a comprehensive communication strategy on it.
In this process, we accompanied the client from the materiality analysis including an employee survey and data collection to the finished report (published in December). The report also serves as the basis for a digital and print campaign of the company to strengthen its position with customers and future applicants.
We accompany Montanwerke Brixlegg at every step of the journey to becoming a transparent copper producer. Together, we set goals and develop strategies for the company. In this way, we ensure that the company, which is rich in tradition, remains fit for the future, finds skilled workers, and firmly anchors the topic of sustainability in its corporate DNA. In future annual sustainability reports and workshops specially tailored to the staff, we will go into further detail and sharpen transparency and positioning.
Due to the pioneering communication strategy, competitors will soon have to follow their lead. Montanwerke Brixlegg AG will set the benchmark – not just for the value but also the sustainability and quality of copper.
