NEW.S Roundup May 2023

“Do good and talk about it” is a well-known marketing claim. It’s likely why companies hire sustainability managers and make them a part of the communication team. Communicating numbers and progress charts engagingly is an art form.
Reporting regulations are getting stricter every year. Starting in 2025, businesses must publish an ESRS-compliant (corporate) sustainability report if they are already covered by the current regulation (NFRD). More importantly, though, beginning in 2026, all companies that fulfill two of the three criteria listed below must publish a non-financial report.
– More than 250 employees on an annual average
– Balance sheet total > € 20 million
– Turnover > € 40 million
This applies to all European businesses at first but will later be extended to non-EU companies with significant business activity in the EU (turnover of €150 million) if their European subsidiary meets the above criteria. And the pool of companies required to report will grow significantly in 2027 with all capital market-oriented SMEs joining in.
Needless to say, the window of opportunity to use the report as a USP and get ahead of everyone else is closing.
From our experience, the first report is mostly about gathering data and setting up internal processes to create a smooth workflow for the future. Storytelling – in this case – is a cherry on top, yet one that makes us very excited here at NEW STANDARD.S. It’s what we’ve been experimenting with and what we’d like to support you and your company with, too.
The people to communicate your impact
We’ve recently hired two new employees. Sophie has joined us as a sustainability consultant. She previously worked at PwC where she audited corporate sustainability reports. She’s excited to increase the impact of our clients and co-create unique impact and sustainability reports with our creative team.
Julien is our new communication designer. As a lateral thinker with a background in economics, he bridges strategic argumentation with visual storytelling seamlessly.
We’re so excited to have Sophie and Julien on our team.
We started NEW STANDARD.S amid the pandemic. While the world as we knew it started falling apart, we decided to use the opportunity to start something new and registered a mutual tax number as a GbR. We wanted to set new standards and didn’t have the patience or funds to start a GmbH immediately. However, after 2,5 years we’re proud to announce that we’ve registered as a GmbH. While this might not mean much to you, we wanted to share our excitement about growing up as a business. If you’d like to learn more about our entrepreneurial journey and how and why we started NEW STANDARD.S, we’d love to invite you to read our two-year recap.
Do you want to meet a crowd of people that all do interesting, good, and impactful things? We invite all Berliners, civil society organizations, initiatives, businesses, and networks dreaming about and organizing for long-term socio-ecological transformation in the city to our brunch for change series. It’s an open space to connect with like-minded people, debate, find collaborators, share, and be inspired.
